The Nicola Rodmell School of Performing Arts
My name is Nicola Rodmell. Born in 1970 in Beckenham Kent, I moved to Hastings at a young age. I discovered dancing from the age of 6 with the Wendy Cameron Academy and through my teens with Donna McLaughlin.
I went on to win a scholarship to London Studio Centre, receiving the John Field Ballet Award before entering and winning the World Ballet Championship. On entering the profession I danced with London City Ballet and Janet Lewis Ballet Company performing on stages from the West End to Broadway!
Since qualifying through the Imperial Society of Teachers of Dancing (ISTD), I have invested 30 years in the teaching of Ballet and PBT (Progressing Ballet Technique); modern and contemporary. To these I add musical theatre and tap. I enter pupils for exams, festivals, competitions and shows. The School has notched up notable performances at the White Rock Theatre (Hastings), De La Warr Pavilion (Bexhill On Sea), Peacock and Saddlers Wells Theatres (London)
Among the School’s charitable pursuits we brought Andrew Lloyd Webber’s Jesus Christ Superstar to the stage in 2016 raising £2000 for St Michaels Hospice. We performed dance displays at Hastings: One Town Many Voices, so too Seven Streets; we have performed for the Greek Orthodox Church raising money for a visiting Belarusian Quartet and International Women’s Day at Concordia Hall. Plus many other local events, for example our involvement in the annual Garden of Cultural Delights in St Leonards Gardens.
Its been thrilling to see pupils of mine accepted at Royal Ballet School Covent Garden, Laine Theatre Arts Epsom, Central School of Ballet and cast for Billy Elliot, The Sound of Music and Disneyland Japan. Two of my pupils have advanced to be Principals of their own dance studios; one reads Dance at Chichester; several have been welcomed into the Cats scheme which is Centre of Advance Training in Euston (‘The Place’). Medal wins at Hastings Music Festival have for three decades involved the Bronze, Silver and Gold.
Present Day
I hold year-round term time classes at the Y Centre and St Matthews Church Centre both in St Leonards On Sea.

Together these options give all the opportunity to experience the joy of Dance. Structured dance tuition allows pupils to enter exams, gain valuable UCAS points toward a University place or like myself, consider a career in Dance.
My ethos is to bring dance into focus and opportunity for poorer backgrounds who may never have considered dance but time and again show potential in this discipline. A Scholarship can be awarded to a gifted student.
Dance and the Performing Arts really do touch all aspects of life with an environment where one may truly flourish, release their creativity, demonstrate interdependence and sow seeds of ingenuity in their young minds.
Yours,
Nicola
